AVID 9
AVID 9 is designed to help teach freshmen organizational and study skills. Cornell Notes, study habits, tutorials and binders are the major points of emphasis for the 9th grade class. The AVID elective teacher works very closely with the school counselor to ensure that students have a four-year plan that will ensure students have completed their A-G requirements. Students will also experience their initial exposure to colleges and universities through research and field trips to California State University San Bernardino and the University of California Riverside.
AVID 10
AVID 10 continues to emphasis strong organization and study skills for students. In additional to Cornell Notes, tutorials and binders, students are expected to maintain their study skills while taking a challenging curriculum. 10th grade students also begin to expand their research on the appropriate college for them by participating in a number of field trips to colleges and universities throughout the Southern California area.
AVID 11
AVID 11 will also continue to use Cornell Notes, binder checks and tutorials and they will begin to act as mentors for the younger students in the AVID program. Additionally, students will place more emphasis on research for the college or university they would like to attend through research and a field trip to Northern California. Students will continue to monitor their four-year plan with the AVID counselor to ensure that they are completing their A-G requirements. The AVID 11 students will also listen to a number of guest speakers who will give students advice on personal statements and the college application process.
AVID 12
AVID 12 students will spend the first several months of the school year completing college applications and personal statements. Students will work closely with the AVID elective teacher and continue to work with the AVID counselor to ensure that all application requirements are completed on time. Students will also spend a significant amount of time working with the appropriate staff members to apply for scholarships that are available to all RMHS students. After application season has been completed AVID 12 students will continue to mentor younger AVID students emphasizing study skills, class participation and individual determination in homework.
